What is the Bio Cranial System?
The Bio Cranial System is based on the idea that our anatomy – our physical structure and the position of specific parts - determines our physiology – how we function - even at a cellular level. If we are structurally sound then we can function at our best. The structure that is at the core of optimum body function is the cranium. Bio Cranial therapy is the actual procedure that is performed to help the bones of the cranium approach their ideal position.
The cranium is the skull; the bones of the face and head. Attached to this is a very tough membrane called the dura mater. This dura is also wrapped around the brain. As the brain exits through the cranium and becomes the spinal cord, the dura continues to cover it and also fastens to the first two to three vertebra. Now, as the wrapped spinal cord goes down the rest of the spinal column, the dura does not attach to bone anywhere else. However, after the spinal cord ends, the dura mater continues past it and proceeds to the sacrum, the bottom of the spine, where it is anchored once again.
So, now you have a tough membrane connecting the cranium with the top and bottom of the spine and it holds between them, the central nervous system – the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Robert Boyd, the osteopath who developed the Bio Cranial System, relates that it is here that “the major physiological processes of the body take place. It follows that any disturbances to any part of this unit will have resultant disturbances to normal body function and, therefore, to health.”
Dr. Boyd observed that, for reasons not yet fully understood, there are distortions in the cranium right from birth, and that those distortions create abnormal nerve transmission. The result of abnormal nerve transmission, or nervous system dysfunction, is reduced function elsewhere in the body.
By developing a system to make corrections to the distorted cranium, Dr. Boyd has given us a great tool to increase the functioning of the human body. The result is then an increase in wellness and performance excellence.
How Does It Work?
There is no popping or snapping or twisting with Bio Cranial. The procedure looks and feels like a big stretch of the neck and upper shoulder muscles. It is an extremely precise and focused protocol which, though it does not take long to perform (just a few minutes), has powerful results.
The Bio Cranial System is a whole-body system of healthcare. The procedure (called a correction) affects the entire spine and nervous system.
