What is Neuro Cranial Integration?
Neuro Cranial Integration is based on the idea that our anatomy – our physical structure and the position of specific parts - determines our physiology – how we function - even at a cellular level. If we are structurally sound then we can function at our best. NCi is a specific technique that aligns the cranial bones, spinal bones, brain and nervous system from the inside out and from the top down. The re-alignment takes tension off the nervous system, releases cranial, fascial and muscle tissue fixations, and returns proper cerebrospinal fluid flow throughout the spine and entire body.
NCi is able to affect the brain, the spine and the entire nervous system in a way that is simply not accessible through spinal manipulation or soft tissue techniques. Although other systems, such as cranial sacral, cranial release and others also affect the cranium, none reach the dura mater that is directly responsible for brain and nervous system balance and health.
The dura mater is a very tough membrane wrapped around the brain. It anchors to the inside of the cranium - which is the skull. The brain sits in the cranium and exits through an opening to become the spinal cord, where the dura continues to cover it and also fastens to the first two to three vertebra. Now, as the wrapped spinal cord goes down the rest of the spinal column, the dura does not attach to bone anywhere else. However, after the spinal cord ends, the dura mater continues past it and proceeds to the sacrum, the bottom of the spine, where it is anchored once again.
By accessing the dura mater and helping to relieve tension in it, NCi allows the left and right brain hemispheres to re-balance and reintegrate in a profound way, automatically improving the functioning of the central nervous system. Also, as tension is released from the dura, the cranial bones, spinal bones, hips, sacrum begin to realign themselves without the need for direct manipulation.
What is it like?
There is no popping or snapping or twisting with Neuro Cranial Integration. The procedure looks and feels like a big stretch of the neck and upper shoulder muscles.
